Trevor Ó Clochartaigh

Trevor is a man of action, who has extensive experience in the areas of community development, media and the arts. He is married to Mali, with four children and another on the way! He comes from Carna originally. He was born and raised in England, of Connemara parents. He attended university in Galway, where he received a B.Comm. He was a founding member of ‘Na Fánaithe’ theatre company, manager & artistic director of An Taibhdhearc, and a Producer & Director with ‘Ros na Rún’ and ‘Fair City’. He worked in the community for a number of years with a Co-op in the Islands area of Connemara (Ceantar na nOileán) and then with the rural development company Cumas/MFG.
 
During that time he was chair of the Galway City & County Childcare Committee, a member of the County Development Board and the rural transport partnership – Bealach. He is involved in the Carraroe Community Council and was central to the setting up of a new development co-operative there – Comharchumann Mhic Dara, a new childcare centre and a playground. For the last year he set up and has been project manager of the national Irish language newspaper, Gaelscéal. He is standing down from those responsibilities completely now to focus fulltime on this election and politics. He was the Sinn Féin candidate in Connemara for the local elections in 2009.
